Highend vs Highstreet: Primer

So today I'm talking about primers. I don't have a lot of primers because I have already found some I love and I prefer to spend my money on other products. I have been asked a lot about Benefits Porefessional and Maybellines Baby Skin in the past and how they compare so I thought today I'd focus mainly on those two primers but then possibly drift into Rimmel primers too.

First of all, I will talk about Benefits Porefessional. Personally, I love this stuff. It is my favourite primer by far but the downside is that its so expensive for a primer! This is a pore-perfecting primer that targets areas where your pores are largest for a flawless look. I have large pores around my nose and chin so I use only a very small amount on those areas and then a cheaper drugstore primer on the rest of face simply to save product and expense.

What it claims:

Quickly minimise the appearance of pores & fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin! Apply this silky, lightweight balm alone, under or over makeup. Translucent, oil-free formula complements all skintones and helps makeup stay put. Contains a Vitamin E derivative, known to protect skin from free radicals.

This is a very silky, lightweight balm but some people find it to feel greasy. I personally don't  have this problem but I'd try it out in the shop to see if you are ok with it. This balm is also tinted slightly but not to the point where it comes in different colours, I just think this is a great way to disguise the pores even further.

The full sized tube of Benefits the Porefessional contains 22ml of product and retails at £24.50. I do think this is worth the price if you use the product sparingly.

Next is Maybellines Baby Skin. This is a much cheaper version. It does work the same way but I find that it feels extremely greasy on my skin, this is something that I don't particularly love.

What it claims:

Introducing Maybelline's first Baby blurring balm - an instant pore eraser! Enriched with insta-blur technology, this clear formula instantly transforms the look of your skin. Skin feels smoother, softer, and appears more refined.

The full size tube contains 20ml of product and retails at £7.99.

I wanted to love this a lot more than I did. For those of you who haven't yet tried Benefits the POREfessional, I would suggest purchasing this drugstore 'dupe' because they both do work well at disguising pores but I just think that Benefits version is a lot better.

  1. These are my two go-to primers, I use the Maybelline one day to day and the Benefit one for nights out or when I need my makeup to last all day, love them both!
